Ok, I need some fashion advice please :D
I need to wear a suit on the weekend for a function I am attending but here is the situation.
I have a dark navy blue suit jacket similar in colour to this:

But I have since grown out of the matching trousers.
Now, instead of hiring or buying a new suit which I will rarely wear again, I was thinking of just buying new trousers for it which would be much cheaper for me.
But this is where it gets tricky. I was thinking of going a different, lighter colour though but need your help as to what colour trousers I should go with? Or is this more a older man's style so because I'm 25 should I avoid this altogether?
A shirt colour suggestion would also be good too so it all looks spot on.
If you can post links that would be great so I can see the trouser colours and then go to the store and ask for it.
Thanks for your help!

If it is suit jacket, you cannot get another pair of trousers. Suit jackets and suit pants were meant to stay together.
Unless of course you purchased "suit separates" and can get the exact pants in the correct size.
If it is a suit jacket, you will look like you bought both at a thrift store if you try to match it with other pants.
An option would be to have the pants altered by a tailor so they fit you properly.
If you need to buy a new suit, I would recommend going to a department store like Macys and check out their "suit separates." Make sure to have yourself measured and get the new suit altered to your size. Get black as you will get more use out of it. If you get navy, grey, or something in pinstripes you wont wear it as much, trust me. Target even sells OK looking suits that do not look too cheap, especially if it only for a few wears.
You can still wear the suit jacket with a pair of dressy jeans. Just not with random trousers.
Another option would be to purchase a Sportcoat in black, navy, or brown. that way you can wear it with contrasting trousers AND jeans on the weekend. Jackets and jeans look sharp and the women dig them. Get to know the difference between a sportcoat and a suit jacket.
Whatever you get, get something classic and simple. Do not venture into pinstripes, tweeds, and **** like that until you have the basic black down.

hell no
If your pants and jacket don't match, it looks very unprofessional. Take your jacket to a store with a wide variety of trousers and ask for assistance in choosing a matching pant.
In my opinion, the navy color is rather old, so you might want to get a nice but cheap black jacket and black trousers.
The navy jacket with khaki pants (or lighter colored trousers) is a look that's usually either sported by older men, or college kids. Funny how that works, huh? You can get away with it, though, as long as you have a really nice tie.
However, if you want to be prepared for future functions, you can always by a nice sport jacket (which you can wear in a lot of different situations). Make sure the sport jacket has a subtle tweed pattern, or something close to it. That way, it looks nicer, and it goes with more things.
Good luck!
Okay, I don't know how formal this thing is going to be but from what I know you're young (25) so stear clear of the prissy, matchy-matchy look and g for something fresh and cool like a dark wash jean and either a light blue or dark blue shirt to go under the blazer you already have. You have right there an appropriate look for a twenty-something and plus it looks really good. Take it from a girl who can dress, I know what I'm talking about. LoL. Hope I could help.
